What is Love?

True Love is sacrificial

It’s so easy as a follower of Jesus to gloss over this fact of life. I take his love for granted! Jesus himself said, “There is no greater love, than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13

Of course we see the sacrificial love of Jesus, and stand in awe of the fact that while we didn’t deserve this kind of love we still received it, and He gladly gives it to us…

But in this life I have experienced this love in my own home, and I’m sad to say it’s taken me a while to see it. My wife has this kind of love in her heart unlike anyone I have ever met. Not just for our family… She will go out of her way to love others, and I have learned so much from her in this department!

The move to Utah is an expression of that love… she’s a Sweet Home Alabama kinda girl. Besides the obvious case of missing her family and friends that she absolutely adores, moving here meant she would take on more responsibility at work and provide for our family in ways that make it difficult for me to accept. Yet, she makes it happen because the sacrifice is something she has become accustomed to!

As I stand in awe of the sacrifice of Jesus, I stand in awe of Shanda’s sacrifice and love for others… her ability to put her own needs and desires at rest for the sake of others is a gift she freely gives to those in her life!

I’m a better man, father, husband, and friend because of her and I know this sacrifice she has been making is a big part of what God is doing in our family, and the catalyst for where God is taking us!

May we all learn to sacrifice for and love others… its good for them and its good for us : )

Peace

  1. No doubt! I’ve seen Shanda do so much for people. Not just the “brought you dinner” type stuff. She’s the one still serving when all the easy/typical tasks are done and everybody else has gone back to their lives…
